Heating Repair Pros Share Why Folks Should Monitor Temps and Humidity

Without looking at your home or business’ thermostat, would you know what the current indoor temperature and humidity levels are right now? If not, our heating repair pros heartily encourage you to go and take a quick look. Why? When most people think about those two things, rarely do thoughts of health and safety come to mind. The majority of the general public thinks about their comfort instead. Although comfort is important, our staff knows that maintaining the wrong indoor temperatures and humidity levels may cause more than just a few sweaty or freezing moments.
Without looking, could you say what your current indoor air temperature and humidity are?

Many years ago, a large number of entities gave the subject some serious thought. Among them were state health departments, the U.S. EPA and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. In the process, the various entities determined that those two factors, when out of balance, may cause health problems to occur. So in turn, they helped come up with a set of universal guidelines that may help people avoid ending up sick and miserable.
Basically, it was determined that the ideal thermostat setting for most healthy adults is no lower than 68 degrees Fahrenheit. However, there have been people who’ve made slight changes to those guidelines over the years. As for the humidity levels, they typically shouldn't exceed 60 percent. When the temperatures and levels deviate drastically from those norms, people may experience respiratory problems. The severity and duration of those respiratory problems obviously has the potential to vary based on the individual’s existing health. For example, it has long been known that many asthmatics are highly sensitive to cold temperatures and elevated humidity levels.
With that said, it always pays to be mindful of a home or business’ interior temperatures and humidity levels.
